About
Neil Burnell is a multi-award-winning fine art landscape photographer based in Devon, South West England. With a background in graphic design and early training in art and photography from college in the 1990s, Neil has developed a distinctive style that captures the evocative, atmospheric essence of the natural world. He specialises in creating deeply immersive, mood-rich landscapes - from the haunting, fog-shrouded woodlands of Dartmoor to the dramatic, long-exposure seascapes along the rugged British coastline - often using long-exposure techniques to enhance ethereal light, mist, and movement.
Mystical
Neil is internationally renowned for his ongoing project Mystical, an evocative exploration of Wistman’s Wood on Dartmoor. Over several years, he has documented its fairytale-like atmosphere: thick fog enveloping ancient, gnarled oaks; moss-draped boulders and twisted roots; and an otherworldly, almost supernatural quality that feels both timeless and enchanting. The series has been exhibited globally, featured in leading publications, and widely praised for its cinematic depth and emotional resonance.
